Lexmark (HQ here in Lexington) recently fired 75 workers from its toner factory in Juarez, Mexico, because they were on strike to demand a $0.35/day raise (they made about $40/week), an end to sexual harassment, protection from toxic chemicals, and the right to form a union.
KWL and others across the United States and Mexico are adding our voices to these workers and we all plan to take Lexmark to task over this in the coming weeks. However, the immediate need is to get these workers and their families through the next couple weeks. With no job, they have no income to support their families. And because they earn so little, they have no savings. The situation is dire.
If you’re able, we encourage everyone who shares our values to donate via the link below. This holiday season, remember that there are no borders in the workers’ struggle!
